VayaMail

Transfer your email to a new host without missing a thing.

Copy straight from the old server to the new one over IMAP, or import saved mail files from Thunderbird, Apple Mail or Gmail Takeout. Every folder, original dates and read status, and nothing copied twice.

  • Data protected
  • Connection secured
  • Emails not stored on our server

Free for one mailbox up to 1 GB. No account needed. Your old mailbox is only read, never changed.

Example migration

Every folder lands where it belongs.

Sent, Drafts and Trash are matched by their role, whatever each host calls them. Messages already there are skipped, and Spam stays behind unless you want it.

  • Original dates, read status and flags
  • Old mailbox opened read-only
  • A report for every message not copied

Three steps, usually under ten minutes of your time.

  1. 1

Sign in to the old mailbox

Type the address and password. VayaMail finds the server for you, even on shared hosting where the certificate names the hosting company.

  2. 2

Sign in to the new one

Check the folder list. Sent, Drafts, Trash and Spam are matched by role, whatever they are called on either side.

  3. 3

    Start, then switch DNS

Close the tab if you like; you get an email when it is done. After changing the MX records, run one more sync to catch mail that landed in between.

What comes across exactly as it was

Messages are copied byte for byte. Nobody on the new server will see a pile of mail dated today.

Original dates
Each message keeps the day it was received, so sorting and search still work.
Read, replied and starred
Unread stays unread. Flags and replied marks come along.
Your folder tree
Subfolders, names with diacritics, and any naming scheme the host uses.
Big attachments
Large messages are copied one at a time with longer timeouts instead of failing.
No duplicates, ever
Run it twice, or after a crash. Messages already on the new server are skipped.
A report you can keep
Counts per folder and every skipped message with the reason, as CSV or JSON.

Works with any IMAP server, including

cPanel, DirectAdmin, Plesk, Hostinger, Roundcube and Horde webmail hosts, Google Workspace, Zoho Mail, Yahoo, iCloud, Fastmail, Dovecot and Courier servers.

Old mailbox already closed?Import the mail your computer kept: Thunderbird folders, Apple Mail exports, Gmail Takeout .mbox or .eml files. Read in your browser, uploaded straight into the new mailbox.
Import files

You are handing us passwords. Here is what happens to them.

  • Encrypted the moment you submit them, and deleted when the job finishes.
  • Messages stream from one server to the other. We never store a copy.
  • The old mailbox is opened read-only. Nothing is moved or deleted there.
  • You can delete your credentials yourself at any point from the progress page.
  • Would rather keep it all on your computer? Use the free CLI.

Prefer a terminal?

The same engine as a free command-line tool, with no size limit. Passwords never leave your machine. Script it for a hundred mailboxes from a CSV.

Questions people ask before moving

Does VayaMail keep my email folders?

Yes. VayaMail copies the whole folder tree, subfolders included. Sent, Drafts, Trash and Spam are matched to the new host’s own folders, so you don’t end up with two Sent folders. Trash and Spam are left behind unless you choose to include them.

Do emails stay read or unread after the migration?

Yes. Every message keeps its read or unread status. VayaMail opens the old mailbox read-only, so copying never marks anything as read on the old account either.

Are flags, stars and replied marks kept?

Yes. Replied, flagged (starred) and draft marks are copied with each message, and so are custom tags (IMAP keywords) when the new server supports them.

Do emails keep their original dates?

Yes. Each message keeps its original received date, so the new inbox sorts exactly like the old one instead of showing every message as received on the day of the move.

Are attachments copied?

Yes. Attachments are part of the message and are copied unchanged. If a message is larger than the new host accepts, VayaMail leaves it on the old server and lists it in the report with the reason, instead of dropping it silently.

Does VayaMail copy contacts?

No. Contacts are stored by the webmail app (Roundcube or Horde), not on the mail server, so no IMAP migration can copy them. Export them from webmail as a vCard (.vcf) file and import that file on the new host; it takes about two minutes.

How to export Roundcube contacts →
Does VayaMail delete anything from the old mailbox?

No. VayaMail opens the old mailbox read-only. Nothing is deleted or moved, and messages are not even marked as read.

How long does an email migration take?

It depends mostly on the old host. A typical 2 GB shared-hosting mailbox finishes in 10 to 30 minutes. Shared hosts limit connections, so VayaMail copies at a steady pace rather than risk a lockout.

Does VayaMail work with Gmail and Outlook?

Gmail, Google Workspace and personal Outlook.com accounts work today with an app password. Microsoft 365 work and school accounts need Microsoft sign-in, which is coming next.

How to create a Gmail app password →
Can I import email saved by Thunderbird, Apple Mail or Gmail Takeout?

Yes. VayaMail imports mbox files (Thunderbird folders, Apple Mail exports, Gmail Takeout) and .eml files into any IMAP mailbox, keeping folders, dates and read status. The files are read in your browser and each message goes straight into the new mailbox; nothing is stored on our side. Same price as a migration: free up to 1 GB.

How to find your Thunderbird folders →
Can VayaMail import Outlook .pst files?

Yes, with the free VayaMail CLI (vayamail import archive.pst --to you@new-domain.com). It copies every mail folder, with read status, flags, attachments and dates. The web import takes mbox and .eml files. If the Outlook account is still on an IMAP server, migrating from the server is simpler still.

How to export a .pst from Outlook →
Do I need an account to use VayaMail?

No, not for a single mailbox. Moving one mailbox is free up to 1 GB and $5 above that, paid by card on the way. An account (just your email address, no password) is only for the unlimited plan, bulk migrations and a list of past migrations.

Is the VayaMail CLI free?

Yes. The command-line tool is free with no size limit: single mailboxes, bulk from a CSV and file imports, including Outlook .pst. It runs on your own computer, so you need Node.js and a terminal, and the copy runs only while your computer is on. The prices above are for the web app, which does the work on our servers.
